Community & Volunteering
Community has always been at the heart of what I do, both personally and professionally. Each week, I volunteer with Reaching CIC, a local charity dedicated to combating social isolation, promoting connectedness and improving the well-being of vulnerable adults in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire.
My volunteering journey
What began as a way to give back quickly became one of the most meaningful parts of my week. Volunteering reminds me daily of the power of connection, kindness and purpose, values that shape not only my work, but the way I live.
Below, I’ve shared a little more about my journey with Reaching CIC, along with links and stories that celebrate the amazing people and communities they support.
In October 2024, I joined Reaching CIC as a volunteer and it’s been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.
Their mission is simple, powerful and necessary: to combat social isolation, promote connectedness and improve the well-being of vulnerable adults, particularly those experiencing loneliness or hardship, within community safe spaces in Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire. Every Wednesday, I get to help bring that mission to life. It’s the happiest two hours of my week, and I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
Our participants range from thirty-something to seventy-something. We talk, laugh and, of course, enjoy a good brew. Some come to connect, to share stories, worries or memories. We listen, offer advice and signpost where we can.
Some weeks, we mix things up a bit, from seated yoga and mindfulness to crafts and board games (Jenga still reigns supreme!). Exploring Biddulph’s rich history with our older participants has been fascinating, and every week I leave feeling lighter than when I arrived.
Volunteering with Reaching CIC quickly became more than just something I did. It became part of who I am. When I launched Caroline Salt Recruitment, one of my priorities was ensuring I could continue giving my time each week.
Reaching CIC is an amazing charity, ever evolving and making a real difference in the communities it supports. It’s a space for laughter, friendship, growth, community and belonging, and I’m proud to play even a small part in that.

Listen to the interview →Exactly a year ago, I sat down with Reaching CIC for my volunteer interview, and what a journey it’s been since!
Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of supporting their work in the community and was honoured to receive a Certificate of Recognition at the Support Staffordshire Volunteer Awards during Volunteers’ Week.
On 13th October, I was officially appointed to the Board as a Volunteer Director.
At Reaching, we’re driven by a powerful mission: to empower adults to forge meaningful friendships, access safe and supportive spaces, and connect with trusted professionals, all while building vibrant, inclusive communities. We achieve this through a range of impactful programmes designed to transform lives.
Each week, I volunteer in one of the Brew Clubs, part of our Brew Crew, a space where connection is everything. Our motto says it best:
I’m proud to be part of an organisation that uplifts others and grateful for the opportunity to contribute in a more strategic way. Volunteering with Reaching CIC continues to be a source of joy, purpose and inspiration, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.
